Thumb Arthritis Testimonial

Patient testimonial 48 hours post thumb joint replacement procedure with BIOPRO®

What is basal joint arthritis?

Basal joint arthritis is a condition that specifically targets the joint located at the base of the thumb, adjacent to the wrist. This joint plays a crucial role in our daily activities, allowing us to perform tasks that involve gripping, pinching, and twisting movements. Unfortunately, over time, this essential joint can be affected by the gradual wear and tear of cartilage that covers the ends of the bones, leading to a condition known as basal joint arthritis.

In cases of basal joint arthritis, the protective cartilage that normally cushions the ends of the thumb’s bones begins to deteriorate. As a result, the bones can rub against each other, causing pain, swelling, and a reduction in the joint’s mobility. This condition can be incredibly debilitating, making even simple tasks like turning a doorknob or holding a cup challenging.

This patient, like many others grappling with similar circumstances, opted to explore surgical interventions to address his basal joint arthritis. Specifically, he underwent a procedure known as CMC joint hemiarthroplasty with the Biopro implant—a cutting-edge approach designed to restore thumb joint function and alleviate pain.
