Alejandro Badia is a renowned surgeon with extensive experience in the United States and around the world.
The celebrated hand and upper extremity surgeon, Alejandro Badia, was honored by Ecuadorian authorities upon being named Honorary Doctor of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology in the Upper Limb Division. This recognition was granted by the Technical Council of Omni Hospital in Guayaquil for his accurate research in that medical field and his work in favor of training medical professionals.
Badia received the award from his Ecuadorian colleague, Johny Chica, a hand surgeon from Omni Hospital, who traveled to Miami to highlight Dr. Badia’s impeccable work.
Badia commented that it was both a source of pride and a commitment to receive this award from Ecuador. He noted that live surgeries have been broadcast to Omni Hospital from Miami with excellent results.
He also stated his willingness to continue motivating his colleagues in Latin America and the rest of the world, maintaining his effort to use the best technologies to educate and exchange medical knowledge. “This award fills me with energy to continue my work,” the physician remarked.
Badia was named president of ISSPORTH (International Society for Sport Traumatology of the Hand) in 2011 in Milan, Italy.
The objective of ISSPORTH is to promote the free and complete exchange of knowledge among the society’s participating members through publications and scientific meetings to facilitate and expand study possibilities within and between different countries.
The institution promotes cooperation among hand surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine specialists, hand therapists, and other medical professionals with a strong interest in the hand, wrist, and sports-related injuries.
Alejandro Badia is a hand and upper extremity surgeon. He studied physiology at Cornell University and obtained his medical degree from New York University, where he also trained in orthopedics. A hand fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh was followed by an AO trauma fellowship in Freiburg, Germany.
Currently, he directs an international hand surgery fellowship program. Additionally, he is a member of the editorial board for two hand journals and organizes an annual course in Miami for surgeons and therapists dedicated to arthroscopy and arthroplasty of the upper extremity.
Badia is a co-founder of the Miami Anatomical Research Center (MARC), the world’s largest cadaveric surgical training laboratory.
In 2008, the BADIA HAND TO SHOULDER CENTER was inaugurated. It is a fully integrated clinic dedicated to the upper extremity that encompasses digital radiography, MRI for extremities, a rehabilitation center, Integra, and the Surgery Center in Doral.
More recently, Dr. Badia inaugurated OrthoNOW, the first immediate orthopedic care center in South Florida. It is staffed by surgeons from the International Orthopedic Group (IOG), a group of surgeons specializing in the lower extremity, upper extremity, and spine; subspecialists who also effectively treat orthopedic problems in international patients.
Badia is also a member of the ASSH, AAHS, and AAOS, as well as an honorary member of numerous foreign hand surgery societies.
