The father of the young national tennis player, Juan José Rosas, who has been absent from all competitions since 2016, explained the reason for his inactivity today and announced that he will undergo surgery in the USA.
Below, we reproduce the post published on the Peruvian player’s official Facebook page:
“Regarding the questions and concerns from family members, friends, and the tennis community, we would like to inform you that Juanjo has not played in any tournaments throughout 2016. This is due to an intermittent injury in his right wrist that he had been dealing with for a few years, which prevented him from training or competing at 100%.
Despite the treatments and therapies he underwent, there was no substantial improvement, and the wrist became inflamed periodically. In August, the pain increased, leading to a series of appointments with the best wrist doctors in Lima. Likewise, consultations were held with foreign specialists experienced in high-performance athletes, especially tennis players. There were differing opinions, ranging from continuing non-invasive treatment for evaluation in five months to opinions suggesting surgical intervention.
The Chosen Specialist
The renowned traumatologist Raúl Vega recommended that we send all information to Dr. Alejandro Badía, who is considered among the best specialists in the world for wrist and elbow injuries in athletes, with extensive experience treating tennis players.
Subsequently, we held a teleconference, through which it was determined that Juanjo will travel on Wednesday, October 5th, to undergo surgery (Arthroscopy) on Thursday, the 6th, at the Badia Hand to Shoulder Center in Miami.
Recovery and Goals for 2017
On Monday the 10th, he will be evaluated again by Dr. Badía and will likely be placed in a cast to immobilize the wrist, followed by the appropriate rehabilitation treatment in Lima.
The goal is to be able to compete as soon as possible and be at 100% to try for a spot on the team representing Peru in the Davis Cup series against Ecuador in 2017.”
Thank you very much for your concern. We will keep you updated throughout the process.
Go Juanjo!
