Welcome to another edition of our #LiveSurgeryTuesday! In this video, Dr. Alejandro Badia performs a PIP joint capsulectomy to correct a severe 40-degree flexion contracture resulting from a previous trauma—an injury often mistakenly dismissed as a simple “jammed finger.” We also address a secondary trigger finger by performing a proximal release and excising a painful post-traumatic palmar nodule.
During the procedure, Dr. Badia demonstrates the use of an internal brace (pinning) to maintain extension, discusses the excision of the scarred A3 pulley while preserving the critical A2 and A4 pulleys, and highlights the indispensable role of post-operative hand therapy.
A special thank you to our patient who traveled all the way from Barbados for this outpatient procedure, and to our global community of medical professionals, hand therapists, and International Medical Graduates (IMGs) for joining the discussion!
